Vienna’s town attorney provides legal counsel and advice to Town Council, staff, and board and commission members. The town attorney’s office also is responsible for prosecution of all misdemeanor criminal and traffic cases. Please note that the town attorney may not provide legal advice to the public.

Town attorney duties and services

Additional services and counsel provided by the town attorney include:

• preparing or reviewing ordinances, deeds, easements, and contracts
• defending and bringing legal actions in which the Town is a party
• composing legislation to be presented to the General Assembly
• reviewing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests
• supervising services provided by outside legal counsel as necessary.
