Residents and businesses may request records from the Town of Vienna Police Department through routine queries or via a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. Details on how to request specific types of records can be found below.

Freedom of Information ACT (FOIA) requests

All FOIA requests, even those for police records (other than records noted below) should be made through the Town of Vienna’s public information office.

Confirmation of cases

Police incident reports often contain personal, sensitive, or confidential information about an event and the parties involved. To preserve personal information and to protect criminal investigations, the Virginia Freedom of Information Act generally exempts these reports from public disclosure. Consequently, copies of investigation reports will not be released without a court order or unless otherwise authorized by law.

The department does provide a confirmation report free of charge to victims or complainants in cases that are investigated by the Vienna Police Department. Call ahead to 703-255-6366 to request a confirmation report. Requesters may pick up the confirmation report in person, with valid government-issued photo identification.

Confirmation of a police report contains:

  • case number
  • reporting officer
  • date of report
  • name of complainant/owner
  • location of incident
  • property loss, if applicable
  • a brief summary of the incident

Accident reports

If you were involved in a crash that is reportable, the police department can provide a copy of the DMV report made by the officer at no charge. Citizens involved in a crash must appear in person at 301 Center Street S from 8 am-3 pm weekdays to request a report. These reports are not available until at least 10 business days after the incident. Please bring valid government-issued photo identification.

Criminal history report

Criminal history reports provide an individual with a local records check on his or her own records. The report provides all adult conviction data listed in Vienna's records system (but does not include a county, state, or national check). There is no charge for this service. You must be at least 18 years of age to request a report and present photo identification.

Note: This report cannot be delivered via fax.

Requests submitted by companies and firms

Insurance companies and law firms may obtain reports for $3 per copy. Make checks payable to: Town of Vienna. Law firms must submit a letter to the department’s records clerk confirming that they represent one of the parties involved. Mail letters to:
